Elderly Heat Stroke and Exhaustion Care in Orange

As summer approaches, the temperatures will rise and so will the health risks that accompany hot weather. It is important to stay hydrated at any age, however the elderly are particularly prone to Heat Stroke and Exhaustion. On one hand, the ability to notice body temperature changes decrease with age, however many seniors have underlying health conditions that make them less able to adapt to the temperature increases.

To avoid Heat Stroke and Exhaustion, some helpful tips include

  • Drinking plenty of water or liquids, even when you do not feel thirsty. Avoid alcoholic and caffeinated drinks because they can actually make you more dehydrated.
  • Wear light colored, loose-fitting clothes and a hat!
  • Stay Indoors in the mid-afternoon when temperatures are at their highest.
  • Be aware of the warning signs of heat stroke and exhaustion, which include: Dizziness, nausea, headache, chest pain, fainting and breathing problems
