As summer approaches, the temperatures will rise and so will the health risks that accompany hot weather. It is important to stay hydrated at any age, however the elderly are particularly prone to Heat Stroke and Exhaustion. On one hand, the ability to notice body temperature changes decrease with age, however many seniors have underlying health conditions that make them less able to adapt to the temperature increases.

To avoid Heat Stroke and Exhaustion, some helpful tips include

Christmas Traditions around the World: Mexico/ A-1 Home Care wishes you a Merry Christmas!

How do you celebrate Christmas? While many Americans are familiar with the tried and true holiday dinner around the table, many more Americans follow their cultural roots and celebrate the holiday in a traditional manner. Christmas traditions around the world are a truly interesting topic, and A-1 Home Care investigates how they occur in our nation's neighbor, Mexico.

There are several elements to Christmas in Mexico, that are region specific. Posadas — door-to-door processions that re-enact Mary and Joseph’s search for shelter — and a parade with candlelit paper lanterns fill the streets of this city in southwestern Mexico. And then there is the tradition of the “breaking of the plates,” whereby people buy crispy pastries topped with sugar or syrup, and then smash the ceramic plates to the ground to signify the end of the old year. But the most awe-inspiring custom is the century-old competition known as the Noche de RĂ¡banos (Night of the Radishes) on the evening of Dec. 23. Farmers display elaborate sculptures — nativity scenes, robed kings, musicians — all carved out of the giant radishes grown locally. After the judges name the winner of the sculpture contest, the sky explodes with fireworks.

However your family celebrates Christmas, A-1 Home Care sincerely wishes you a loving holiday, with many great memories around the Christmas tree.
